Day 16
[ Tri-D native for hire ]
...A dark figure leans forward and deftly lifts a smoldering stick from
the table. The minimal lighting catches the tips of his
silhouette. The interviewer resumes ...
"So mister, er, mister,.. Bee."
"Yes, sorry, what ?"
" you were saying ..."
He sits back, slowly brings the stick to his lips, inhales, holds, and
lets loose a dense cloud followed by a slight cough.
"Right, yes, where was I, er, Aliens, come in peace,
E36, HAT, 4D training academy, We Want You. Yes, right, I've got
it ! Well, you see it was perfect, I needed them and they needed
me. A fine mutual back scratcher if ever there was one.
I'd just put the HAT back on for a quick blast of
super-hazey perception alteration. But, instead of the usual
function, I was hit with three repeating images of such intensity that
for a while after I could see nothing else.
A pointing finger toward then through me,
Two interlocking rotating arrows flashing round til
they made an uninterrupted circle.
A brightly jeweled trophy viewed from its' heavy
base, it's rim soaring skyward.
The message was clear : 'We want you to work
for us and we will reward your compliance'
They didn't ask if I'd like to take some time to
consider their offer. Partly, as it turned out, they didn't
understand the concept, but mainly they knew I would accede the moment
they asked. They knew because there could be no other
decision. They knew because, to them, it is-was already
happened-ing.
So, this was the moment I'd been waiting for.
The beam-me-up part of the story. This is the last point that
makes sense. I'm standing there, arms in the air, face up to the
sky, waiting. Waiting to be transported into their realm.
And, in a way, I'm still waiting. I mean, from that point there's
no more then, no more now, it's all just IS.
I Am the instructoversial representative of resource
E36.
I Am also the comms protocol for the hydroxy
gatherers.
I am co-incidentally talking to you now.
But ,in another way, I just woke up to alien
invaders and a new HAT
Or am I just an echo of the experience ?"...
"Could we, er.."
"sorry, drifted off. Perception is such a
fragile phenomenon. Far to wayward and fleeting a mirror on which
to base a reality. Yes, yes, I know, you've got a deadline to
meet, sorry, it's been some time since I've had to think about time..I
think."
