This is probably the most
traditional style restaurant I have ever been to. No real
surprise given the location right up by the castle in tam o'shanta
tourist central. I suppose this is what's expected by ageing
American visitors when they go to a restaurant in little old
Scot-Land. The waiters are dressed in penguin, the menus in
leather and the tables in linen. The lights are low, the candles
are red and the food is rich and heavy. An anachrnism it may be
but at The Witchery this insistence on staying put in the past actually
works quite well and after a roast breast of Gressingham duck with
buttered savoy cabbage, the Whisky list is extremely tempting. If
you're up that end of town and fancy a trip back in time, then dive in
to this ancient cave for a reminder of restaurants past.
