Le Fumoir

Tel : 33-01 42 92 00 24 | 6 Rue de l'Amiral de Coligny 75001 Paris

A cool cocktail bar on a busy museum street hides a top notch eatery in the back room. I could just stop there but Le Fumoir deserves special mention. It's the type of place you want to find in Paris. They'll pour you a cold beer, mix up a classic cocktail, decant a decent red and then feed you very well and all with an efficient smile. Drinks first, because we were very early so sat at the bar sampling our way through that menu. All pretty good, a nice selection of wines by the glass and an impressive cocktail list including multiple martinis which is always guaranteed to make me go back to the bar for more.

Then out back to the dining room which was functional and perfectly charming enough. Big bold dishes on the menu, bistro classics but beefed up both in size and flavour. I actually struggled to finish my roast lamb as I'd never been presented with a chunk so, er, chunky. Fine wine as you'd expect in the posh part of France and then on to the cheese. The selection was up to the same standard as we'd expect by this point and actually made me re-evaluate my position on who's number one in the world of goat's, blues and soft cows. Definitley one to go back to, in fact we did, for some afternoon refreshments the next day!
